Frequently Asked Questions

Can singing lessons help a bad singer?

The simple answer is yes. As with anything you would like to do, there has to be some learning and practising to get you there. Whether you’d like to become a body builder, a sprinter, a baker, or a singer. Everyone has the potential to sing, it just takes some time, motivation and practice.

What can singing lessons do for you?

It depends on what your goal is. Would you like the confidence to sing in a choir? Would you like to prepare yourself for an audition? Would you like to sing at an open-mic night? And it doesn’t just apply to singing. Beccy can help with spoken voice too, so if there’s a big presentation you have coming up, or if you want to do the next TED talk, then contact us now to book.

I can’t afford singing lesson, what can I do?

At BHVA we’re aware that individual tuition can be expensive, especially if you’re after the best in the area. That’s why we also offer group classes through Harmonix and Sing Squad. These are a cheaper alternative, but you won’t lose out on expertise as Beccy’s research includes group lesson tuition.

What do singing lessons cost?

Singing lessons vary by teacher. Here at BHVA our lessons start from £40 per hour for a student and will be at a higher rate for professional voice users. Lessons can be offered in 30, 45 or 60 minute slots.

If this is too much for you, then we offer a group class that offers all the same benefits, with the added bonus of friendship and collaborative learning. Sing Squad (children) costs £6 per 45 minute session. Harmonix (adults) costs £10 per 90 minute session.

Can anyone learn to sing?

Yes. It may take longer for some people to get to a place where they are happy with their voice, but ultimately pretty much anyone can learn to sing. Most of the time it is confidence, but you will gain that in a nurturing environment and learn the most sustainable vocal techniques for you. This is the same across Vocal Tuition, Sing Squad and Harmonix.

What is the youngest you teach?

Here at BHVA we teach students from as young as 4 years old. For our younger students we recommend joining Sing Squad rather than having individual lessons. It’s less intense as the focus isn’t all on you. Also, there’s lots of fun to be had when you’re with peers, and the additional benefit of making new friends.

Is it safe to teach children to sing?

As long as the teacher understands children’s and young adult’s voices and ensures that they are teaching them appropriately then it’s safe to teach children. They are going to sing anyway, so you may as well help them learn how to sing in a sustainable, and healthy, way. Here, we do that through games, kazoos, and using age-appropriate songs. All of these will encourage the children to access all parts of their voices, and they’ll be learning technique as they play the games too.
